1Rd8&2Rb8 Knight fork or skew does the rest
1. Rd8 Kb7 2. Rb8! Kxb8 3. Nxc6 Kb7 4. Nxa5 bxa5 5. h5 +-;
This is a quick one. 1. Rd8+ Kb7 2. Rb8+ Kxb8 3. Nxc6+ Kc8 4. Nxa5 gxh4 (4. … bxa5 5. h5 and the pawn gets in) 5. Nc6 Kd7 6. Nb4 Kd6 7. Nd3. White will keep the knight.
Rd8 prepares Nb5 to take the black queen:
Rd8 …
1 – …Kb8(or Ka7), Nxc6+
2 – …Kb7, Rb8+ …
2a …Kxb8, Nxc6+
2b …Ka7, Nxc6+
After that, Ph4 is free to progress, leading to a promotion.
1Rd8+ Kb7
2Rb8+ KxRb8
3Nxc6+ Kc8
4NxQa5 gxh4
Black gives life to N for saving immediate defeat.for white it seems there is no way to save h4 pawn in which case task would have been over. Now tactics gets over and technique begins.
Rd8+
..Ka7 Nc6 wins the queen
..Kb7 Rb8
..KxR Nc6 wins the queen
..Ka7 Nc6#
1.Rd8+ Kb7 2.Rb8+ Kb8 3.Nc6+ wins easily
Set up the knight fork:
1. Rd8 Kb7 (Ka7 2.Nc6+-)
2. Rb8! Kb8
3. Nc6 Kc8 (nothing better here)
4. Na5 gh4 (ba5 5.h5+-)
5. Nc6 and white should win this rather easily.
1. Rd8+,Kb7 2. Rb8+,KXb8 3. NXc6 forking the Queen,Kc8 4. NXQa5,gXh4 5. Nc6 when White has a piece and pawns to win the endgame
the plan would be getting rid of that queen..
so,
1. Rd8+ Kb7
2. Rb8+ Kxb8
3. Nxc6, grabbing the queen..
If black takes back with the knight, the h pawn queens.
Piece of cake as long as one doesn’t have to demonstrate one’s superior endgame technique after getting to the point where this puzzle leaves off.
1. Rd8+ Kb7
2. Rb8+ Kxb8
3. Nxc6+ Kc8
4. Nxa5
Now Black has the choice between 3 different continuations, all of which lose.
4. … gxh4 5. Nc6
This eliminates the h-pawn that was about to become passed, but destroys
Black’s pawn formation on the kingside, thereby committing his king to the
kingside, giving the White knight free rein on the queenside.
4. .. Kd7 5. h5
This non-capture might just be the best practical chance over-the-board.
Although it leaves the h-pawn on the board, it keeps it within sight, and
doesn’t weaken Black’s kingside pawn structure.
4. .. bxa5 5. h5
This gets rid of the knight, but allows the h-pawn to promote. The Black
king will not be able to get to g7 when the pawn is on h7.
Lucymarie
1. Rd8+ Kb7 (1… Ka7? 2. Nxc6+)
2. Rb8+ Kxb8
3. Nxc6+ Kc8
4. Nxa5 gxh4 (4… bxa5? 5. h5!! and the passed pawn is unstoppable)
5. Nc6
White is up a knight for two pawns. Is that enough to win? In this case, perhaps yes.
