Gideon Lohr, 4, thinks about his next move today at a youth chess tournament in the Hoover Recreation Center. The tournament was the first U.S. Chess Federation sanctioned tournament for the Chess Kids Nation club organized by Balagee Govindan of Hoover.
Govindan has provided chess classes with the recreation center after starting classes in his home for his son and a few other youngsters. Today’s tournament drew about 60 youngsters ages 5 to 15 from Alabama, Kentucky and Tennessee.
