I attended the second round of the US and US Women’s Championship in Tulsa, Oklahoma yesterday. Unfortunately, my wallet was stolen from my purse somewhere between late afternoon and early evening at the hotel either in or near the playing hall.
I did make a police report and contacted my credit card companies the moment I found out. Unfortunately, some fraudulent charges were already made.
I do not care about the cash inside the wallet. I am more concerned about my IDs and some other personal items which have no value to others. If by chance someone finds my wallet, please send it back to the address on my driver’s license, no questions asked.
Thank you!
Susan Polgar
Hi Susan:
My wife went through this once. It may be worth your time to contact the business where the charges were made. Security cameras may have been recording those transactions. Good luck. I know it is only money and a great inconvenience, but it is still sad to see this side of some people.

I hope the hotel security at prestigious event like this would be better. Sorry about it.
My sympathies, Susan. Dealing with stolen ID and credit cards is a royal pain. I recall you were ripped off in Germany, too, a couple of years ago. You’ve had terrible luck with thefts, lately.
OK,
So this is a BAD joke, but I just can’t seem to help myself…?!
Does anyone know where Sloan was at the time?!?!
at least sam sloan does not have it
Sorry to hear about the theft. My g/f went through the same thing at the Houston Airport (National K-12) last December, and it is quite a pain.
Sadly, I fear that is someone has already made charges on your cards, they’re not likely to be chess players that visit your blog. )=
Best of luck to you.
Search the internet. Maybe someone is already trying to sell it on ebay or something.
LOL, Susan shoud know better than “no questions asked”. The correct incentive should be – I’ll pay you $50 per returned item.
Was Bill G. anywhere near your pocketbook?
Does the stolen wallet look like the one in that picture?
Sorry to hear about your stolen wallet.I hope they (the bloody thieves) will have at least a tiny spark of basic decency to return your ID’s etc. This kind of thing can be so distracting! (oldsalt7/amarsekhar/india)
what a cruddy ordeal. very sorry susan 🙁 I hope someone will come forward with some information!
Paul or Giannini may be using it to frame you later on, be careful.
In Russia the thief will phone you up and say if you want your documents and cards back, meet at the subway and pay another $200.
No subway in Lubbock. Meet him near the dirt mound?
I found a purse once. There wasn’t much money in it, just £5 or so and a few credit cards. I phoned one of the credit card companies, gave them the name on the card and my phone number and asked them to let the owner know I’d found her purse.
I got a call half an hour later from a lady who frantically asked me to check the contents of the purse. I told her there was £5 and some loose change. “How about the inside pocket?” she said. I hadn’t noticed this and when I checked it there were a couple of diamond rings worth a couple of grand each inside. I’d have found it harder to be honest if I’d spotted these earlier.
Jon,
I am certain the rings weren’t made in your style anyway.
A similar thing occured when, before a round of the Enghien les Bains tournament in 2003, Kortchsnoj had has wallet stolen by two youngsters. He lost the game that today to Michael Adams.
Korchnoi remarked afterwards, ‘The guys won’t be happy when they see that there was only 52 Euros in the wallet.’
