The scholastic chess program in Portland, Oregon, Chess for Success had their annual fund raising dinner and auction April 30, 2009 in downtown Portland Oregon.

There were about 225 people in attendance. An award was given to Neil Dale, Lewis Richardson, Analyne Flanagan, Ian Osgood and Clay Kelleher for their many years of service to scholastic chess in Oregon and the Chess for Success program of after school chess instruction for Title I schools which means at least 35% of the students quality for free or subsidized beakfast and lunch.

The program has built up to where they are serving 83 schools. Also there were 24 K-12 regional chess tournaments with 2500 players in 2009 in Oregon that qualified about 600 for the state finals in Portland.

There was both a silent auction of 3 tables of donated items plus a live auction for such items as: Escape to Sun River, Two Rose Garden Suite Event and Private Concert with Michael Allen Harrison.
