I had heard that he was missing a
finger? However his right hand in the picture does show something else.
But that did not take away from his play any. I’m sure some would give up their right hand to play like him.
Two fingers as amatter of fact.
Curiosities:
1.Fischer had Asperger’s Sydrome which is a form of autism-which made him love to play chess. Hence the quote: ”All I want to
do, ever, is play chess.”
2.Petrosian was deaf.
3.Kasparov has a 135 IQ.
4.Euwe was the tallest world champion ever.
5.Korchnoi was a world championship contender more than any other contender who never became the world
world champion.
Was this when Tal took ill (at Curaco?) and Fischer visited him?
He wanted to be sure.
Yes, it was Curacou, 1962.
To me it looks like Tal is more than missing two fingers. To me it looks like a deformity, probably ectrodactyly.
Benko has a photo slide show of this historic visit in his book My Life, Games and Composition. A very beautiful hard cover book with a lot of rare photographs.
Yes, he lost some hair too.
Bobby and Mikhail are currently in Heaven. They often play chess with each other, God, and the angels.
