I would give check, both because i’m a patzer and because i’m seeing that eventually after Black plays ..c1+ one of the white pawns will survive. I think i’ve found the solution for the quiz

I’ll post the solution next time it’ll appear (anyway the question is to let room for the newborn white queen to give checks, and when the black king is in the e file exchange queens recapturing with the pawn).

2. e7 .. d1+
3. Rxd1 .. Kf7
4. Re1 and the “a” pawn gets up.

I don’t know, i haven’t been playing since two years ago, and federation is changing rules awkwardly, so that could be possible, but as far as i know the rules when i was playing…
1. Rd8+ .. Kg7
2. e7 .. d1+
3. Rxd1 .. Kf7
4. Re1 .. Ke8 (no other reasonable alternatives so far)
5. a4 .. Rb4 (otherwhise 6. Re4 bounding black king and rook)
6. a5 .. Rb5 (otherwhise as above)
7. a6 .. Rb6
8. Ra1 and queens (checks by the black’s rook will run out with the white’s king going to the east side).
I know is sufficient to win a Q+R vs R endgame, because i have 50 moves to play without captures and pawn moves.
1 Rd8! Kg7 2 e7 d1=Q (only move) 3 Rd1 Kf7 4 Re1 Ke8 (4…Rb8 5 a4 is easier for White) 5 a4 Rb3! 6 Kg2!! (6 Kf4? Rb4 7 Re4 Re4 8 Ke4 Ke7 =) Rb2 7 Kh1! Rb4 (7…Ra2 8 Re4 +-) 8 a5 Rb5 9 a6 Rb6 10 a7 Ra6 11 Rg1! (note that this is only possible if White played his king to h1, otherwise it would be drawn) Ke7 (11… Ra7 12 Rg8 Ke7 13 Rg7 +- wins the rook) 12 Rg8! Ra7 13 Rg7 wins.

I should note that consul’s line is about right but 8 Ra1?! Black can play the stubborn Rb8! and White has nothing better than to play Re1. White has to know the maneuver of pawn to a7 and rook to g1/h1 to win the position. The rook check on b3 is also a better defense than the immediate 5…Rb4.
