if i had 30 seconds left on my clock i’d go Rg8
if …Rxg8 2 f7 should hold. it looks like black can queen in some lines but white’s king will safe on h2 and he should be able to hold a material advantage.
if …a2 Rxa8 stops the action
This one is too hard for me.
1. Rg8!! Rxg8 2. f7 winning
oops! I guess I’m wrong… 1. Rg8 Rxg8 2. f7 Rxg2! 3. Rxg2 Kxe7 and black wins! I am doing something wrong…
Rg8??
1. e8=Q Rxe8
2. f7
Morsa,
1.Rg8 Rxg8
2.f7 was played in the actual game but Ivkov missed
2…Rxg2! winning, and instead he played
2…a2?? thus losing the game on the spot with
3.fxg8Q.
Of course Timman could obtain winning advantage with
1.Rg3 (intending Rd3+ etc)
Apologies for the double post. At first I thought e8=Q would lead to a queen vs. queen endgame with white up a couple of pawns. But extending my analysis a bit shows that the line is a merciless one:
1. e8=Q Rxe8
2. f7 a2
3. fxe8=Q a1=Q+
4. Kf2 Qxg7
5. Qc6+ Ke7
6. Qxc7+
And now the endgame is simply four pawns on one.
Robert, perhaps with 3.fxe8=N+ Thanks to some checks the white rook is just in time to stop the a-pawn.
1.Rg3 a2
2.Rd3+ Ke6
3.e8Q Rxe8
4.Rxa3 +=
Unbelievable.
Timman played the losing Rg8 an Ivkov lost.
No one found the win for White? Is is even possible?
f7 is winning move.
1. f7 Kxe7 2. Rg8+-
1. f7 a2 2.f8=Q a1=Q+ 3. Kh2 (and white materail advantage)
1.f7 Kxe7 2.Rg8 winning
How about:
1.f7…Kxe7
2.Rg8 seems to win
f7 kxe7
rg8 rf8 and black wins?
white can save himself with
1.Rg3 a2
2.Rd3+ Ke6
3.Rd1 a1=Q
4.e8=Q+ Rxe8
5.Rxa1 Kxf6
maybe white is able to win this endgame
the tricky
1.Rg8 Rxg8
2.f7
does not work due to
2…Rxg2
3.Kxg3 Kxe7
What is white’s line after f7 black replies a2?
after
2…a2
for example
3.fxg8=Q
or
3.e8=N+
these lines dont lead to any defeat of white whereas
2….Rxg2+
wins for black
