After the successful last year edition of the “Terre degli Elimi” Festival, which was won by the Russian GM Vladimir Epishin, the organized have proceeded with preparation for the next event which will be held on 24-28th July at the Sales Palace, via Carvini, 2 – Erice, Sicily.
The playing venue is still in the beautiful medieval town Erice, near Trapani, on the Strait of Sicily (Canale di Sicilia). It is a really wonderful, perfectly suited place to host a chess tournament with a climate that, even in midsummer, is moderate and the playing conditions are superb without the heat or annoying sound of air-conditioning.
Erice in western Sicily (Italy) is located 15 km from ‘airport “Vincenzo Florio” in Trapani (Ryanair Hub) at about 700 meters above sea level overlooking the Canale with breathtaking views going as far as Mount Etna.
To arrive in Erice, you can reach Trapani by plane with daily flights of Fly Meridiana and Ryanair offering connections from leading Italian and European airports at very affordable prices.
Titled players are enjoying free entry and the accommodation is very cheap, particularly for the groups of 3-4 people.
The Festival includes the main tournament Open A, which is accepting all players, and the reserve tournament Open B for unrated players. for players not classified. Both groups will be played over 7 rounds of Swiss system.
Entry fees are 55 € for seniors and 35 € for under 16 and women (open A), and 30 € for seniors and € 20 for Under 16 and Women (Open B). GM, IM and FM can participate for free. The total prize money will be more than 2500 €.
