150 to make their moves at chess meet

Guwahati, Oct. 27: The Lions Kamrupa Chess Academy will organise the 3rd Jugal Kishore Newatia Open International Rating Chess tournament at South Point School here from November 29 to December 5.

The winners of the championship will go home richer by Rs 40,000.

Academy chairman Binod Khemka today said nearly 150 players from India and abroad will participate in the tournament. Players from Nepal and Sri Lanka have already confirmed participation.

The Indian contingent will include five International Masters, including Atanu Lahiri and S. Satyapragyan.

The organisers said players from Russia and Malaysia may participate in the tournament.

“We are in contact with at least one International Master from Russia and players from Malaysia,” said the academy’s head of strategy and administration, Biswajit Bharadwaj.

The organisers said the players from India would be accommodated at South Point School hostel while those from abroad and IMs would be provided hotel accommodation.
