Formula 1 auto racing may not be as popular here in the U.S. as, say, Nascar, but that shouldn’t exclude us from enjoying this attractive chess set made of old Renault parts. Priced at a reasonable $36,511, this chess set uses every part of the car.
The chess board itself is made of the same carbon fiber that the F1 cars are made out of and the chess pieces are made from assorted cars parts hailing from the wings, cockpit and even the suspension. Materials include titanium, stainless steel and leather.
It’s available now and really does cost $36,511!

Perfect pieces for pawn promotion races
no chess player is going to buy that.
how come other sports can command such high prices for their stuff, and not chess?
Wow! That’s expensive! Way over my budget, eh?
Ummm… I suppose it’s a fairly good way to recycle auto parts.
those “french pieces” are out of range of my calculating (chess and other) skills…
sincerly, Vohaul
You mean $36.51 I assume?
I’ll take three. 🙂
The style reminds me of old 18th century sets. I’d have a hack of a time telling the pieces apart. 🙂

Do they come with extra pieces, or do I just have to buy a couple extra sets to have pieces available for pawn promotion?
This us a reason to switch back to “descriptive” English notation. Somehow, “Sparkplug to Piston 4” has such a nice ring to it, compared to “e4”. 🙂
