Zambia releases fund for hosting 2011 All Africa Games

LUSAKA, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) — The Zambian government has released preliminary funding of the projected 230,000 U.S. dollars to startup grading sports infrastructure in readiness for hosting the 2011 All Africa Games (AAG), Times of Zambia reported Monday.

The country is planning to build an extra swimming pool at the land accommodating the Lusaka Olympic Swimming pool ahead of the first ever All Africa Games that the country will host in 2011.

Sports Deputy Minister, Richard Taima said here Sunday that part of the money in the projected budget would go towards construction of new hostels at the University of Zambia (UNZA) main campus which would be used as the official Games village.

He said other higher institutions of learning were also being considered and cited the National Institute for Public Administration (NIPA) and the Evelyn Hone College of Applied Arts and Commerce, as some of them.

…The All Africa Games will host 26 sports disciplines from around the African continent and includes among others, football, swimming, squash, chess, badminton, volleyball, basketball, tennis, hockey, baseball and softball, handball, athletics and boxing.
