The 2009 Grey Bruce Regional Chess Challenge was held on Saturday, April 18 at St. Joseph’s Jubilee Hall in Port Elgin.

There were 29 competitors representing 12 schools. In this tournament the players compete by grade and the winner from each grade qualifies to represent the Grey Bruce Region at the Provincial Chess Challenge in Toronto on April 26.

This is an event which is sponsored by the Chess n’ Math Association of Canada.

Due to the number of players in Grade 6, we were allowed to qualify the first two players.

The Chess n’ Math Association allows prequalifiers to attend the Provincial Chess Challenge.

They invite the top 10 rated players (as of Jan 1) for each grade in Ontario to attend. Brendon Osmann-Deyman of Clarksburg was prequalified this year.

Winners from each Grade are as follows:

Grade 1 — Gold Medal — Joel Litt, Edge Hill Country School, Durham.
Grade 2– Gold– Sasha Romanowich, St. Joseph’s, Port Elgin.
Grade 3 — Gold — Jonah Litt, Edge Hill Country School, Durham.
