Las Tunas to Host Cuban National Chess Championship

The eastern Cuban province of Las Tunas will host the National Chess Championship early next year.

According to organizers, the tournament will consist of two stages and will be attended by 38 players, including 11 Grand Masters.

The championship will be based on the nine-round Swiss system to choose five finalists.

Cuban Olympic team members Lázaro Bruzón, Yunieski Quesada, Holden Hernández and Jesús Nogueiras, in addition to Neuris Delgado, who will substitute for Leinier Domínguez, will participate in the championship.

The tournament will mark the beginning of a year during which Cuban chess players will take part in major international competitions.
