I believe that world’s #1 Nadal has an easier draw than his chief rivals Federer and Djokovic. Roddick will have to face Djokovic in the QF if he can make it through. This may be too much for Djokovic to face Roddick in the QF and then Federer in the SF.

Nadal has not done well at the U.S. Open in past years. In addition, Federer will be so determined to get back at Nadal for the loss at Wimbledon. Therefore, I will pick #2 Federer over Nadal in the final in 4 sets.

The wild card this year will be the fitness and fatigue factor as a number of players traveled to Beijing for the Olympics.

Even though Ivanovic is the top seed, I am not keen on her winning the U.S. Open. She may have to face former #1 Mauresmo in the 3rd round. That will be a tough matchup for her.

In the same bracket is D. Safina, sister of world’s former #1 Marat Safin. I like Safina but I do not think that she is fit enough to survive Beijing and 2 weeks of NY summer heat.

It is bad luck that Serena and Venus are stuck in the same bracket. If they win their matches, they will meet in the QF. This could have been a fun final to watch.

I am having a hard time picking the clear favorite between Dementieva, Kutznetsova, and Jankovic. I think Venus has too much experience in big matches and Jankovic has not done well in Grand Slam finals.

My pure instinct tells me to go with Venus Williams and Jankovic in the final with Venus coming out on top in 3 sets.
