it seems to me Milov won one of these big opens before. he is a tough customer. but Gata is doing well.
I expect Nakamura to bounce right back.
I must say. you put up half million dollars and the GM’s come from all over to compete. It makes sense for them. the travel and hotel expenses are the same but this way they payoff is bigger. it is almost like playing 2 World Opens at the same time.
I really like the World Open with so many GM’s. it really shows it as a World class event.
I hope Kamsky wins. if not Kamsky I will be very happy if Nakamura wins.
It is also a good deal for top GM’s because they do not have to pay the $400 entry fee. this makes it a real magnet for the GM’s. and all this top competition is good for chess.
I heard that some games are live on Playchess server. (of course all games can not be shown. )
does anyone have an idea on the number of participants which determines the total prize money.
I don’t think this list includes those player in the 3-day section.
Yes,even though the world open results section shows merged results , it doesn’t include the results of the 3 day section. e.g. Moiseenko is at 4.5/5 in the 3 day section.
I just found out even though I have been watching some of the games on ICC, Mon Roi has the top tweny boards live in real time. http://www.monroi.com same people who gave us all of Susan’s games in simul in Las Vegas. I was honoured and was able to earn a draw against Susan Polgar, a result I will treasure my whole life plus meeting this gracious and classy lady and ambassador for chess just makes me admire her even more.
Is it possible to post the results after round 6 ?
Odd to list only scores of GMs. A GM with 1.5 points shouldn’t get more recognition than a non-GM with much more.
I can’t agree that this would count as a World class event.
Of the 35 GM’s taking part, only 6 of them appear in the FIDE top 100.
Gata is at number 20, then you have to go all the way down to 78 to find Nakamura. The others are all under 80th, with the leader, Milov at 98th in the world.
Is this some sort of ratings anomaly, or is it indicative of an East/West split?
If half a million in prizes is not enough to attract big names to this event, then what do you have to do?
For an event labeled “The World Open” and with a good prize fund, I would say it’s a very poor turnout.
Anyone care to speculate why this might be?
