1…Ra1+
1…Ra1+
1…Ra1+
2.Kxa1 Nb3+
Winning the exchange of a queen for a rook.
If 2.Kc2
then 2…Qb3#
1.Ra1+ Kxa1 2.Nb3+ forking the queen and king, or 1. … Kc2 2.Qb3#.
This 2 second tactic took me about 30 seconds which was much longer than the previous “brilliant chess tactic” from yesterday.
1…Ra1+ attracting the king to the a1 square
2.Kxa1 Nb3+ (2.Kc2 Qb3#)
followed by 3…Nxd2 and black ends up with a queen for a rook and 3 pawns however the pawns are disconnected and so black should win this easily.
Even though 1.Nb3 is good enough more clear is
1….. Ra1+
2.Kxa1
(2…. Kc2 3.Qb3#)
2.Nb3+ wins Q for R.
1. … Ra1+
2. Kxa1 Nb3+ (forking the king and Queen)
If white plays
2. Kc2 Rxf1 winning the Bishop.
1. … Ra1+
2. Kxa1 Nb3+ (forking the king and Queen)
If white plays
2. Kc2 Rxf1 winning the Bishop.
rook will check the king at a1 the king has only two choices if king eats the rook the knight can double check both queen and king other choice is to move the king to c2 if the white do that it will be a checkmate at qb3

1. … Ra1+
2. Kxa1 (Kc2 Qb3#) Nb3+
3. Ka2 (not Kb1 Nxd2+) Nxd2
4. Rc8+ Kh7
Bishop move would be answered with Qa6+.
5. Rc1 Qxd5+
6. Ka3 (Ka1 Nb3+) Nxf1
7. Rxf1 Bxe5
8. Rh1+ Kg8
9. fxe5 Qxe5
White has little more to play for here.
1…Ra1+!(Wins for black…)
If,
2.KxR Nb3+ forks the King and Queen…If,
2.Kc2 Qb3#
(I struggled about 5-6 minutes to find the obvious…)
I admire anyone that can see this in two seconds. It took me about a minute to spot it:
1. …..Ra1!
2. Ka1 Nb3
Wins the queen for a rook. And white can’t play 2.Kc2 since black mates with Qb3.
Ra1 ch wins queen if rook is taken or king if it isn’t.
1..Nb3
Nb3 mates or wins the Queen
– if Q moves Ra1+ followed by Rc1#
– if anything to prevent mate – NxQ+
trixter suggested a quick mate after:
1. … Nb3+
but should consider:
2. Qe3! Ra1+
3. Kc2 Rc1+??
4. Qxc1! Nxc1
5. Kxc1
White has rook+knight+3pawns for the queen!
It’s easy to miss that you often can come well out of a hopeless looking situation by just sacking your queen…
In this line better was:
3. … Rxf1
but still it’s “only” up with bishop for 3 pawns.
