THE 38th Intertrust Guernsey International Chess Festival ended on Saturday, with Grandmaster Mark Hebden, pictured, regaining the title that he last won in 1990.

Hebden’s victory – his fourth Guernsey Open title overall – was gained over Grandmaster Marc Narciso on count-back, with each grandmaster taking home a £900 share of the £4,880 prize fund.

Grandmaster Raj Tischbierek took third prize, while Martin Burrows, Stephen Dilleigh, IM Jovanka Houska, Wolfgang Mack, Kenneth Norman and Colin Purdon shared the minor place money.

Within this group, Houska also took the ladies’ prize, Burrows’ performance earned him a 2013 British Championship entry, Norman won the veterans’ prize and Mack’s performance secured him the title of FIDE Master.
