Incredible, his skill as well as his last name, how in the world do you pronounce that?
Hi site: http://dril-chess.com
The pic looks like a girl, is it the right pic? The first name seems to be a girl, but then I could be wrong. I had never heard of this chessplayer.

There are times during a chess game when I’ve felt the need to hug a teddy bear, too. 🙂
To be close to becoming a GM at age 11. Does this child have any social developement? Theres a fine line for children to excel and to be so immersed in one gift that they are damaged in other areas.
That photo is definitely him. He’s pretty big for his age, but most certainly he is a guy. 🙂

He´s too old to have a teddybear like that…
I found this on him, “Illya Nyzhnyk is a Ukrainian chess player. He was born September 27, 1996[1][verification needed] and gained world-wide attention when he won Group B of the 2007 Moscow Open at the age of 10.[2] He achieved a nearly flawless score of 8.5/9 and his performance rating was 2633, that of a Grandmaster.[3] His current FIDE rating is 2377, the highest rating in the world in the under-12 age group. In 2007 he won the European Youth Chess Championship for under-12. In the 2007 World Youth Chess Championship he tied for first in the under-12 age group, placing second on tie-breaks.
On Sunday, April 13 2008, Nyzhnyk won the Nabokov Memorial in Kyiv, Ukraine, witn 8.5/11, and scored a GM norm.”

The Teddy Bear is making a point to people-9 year old GMs are around the corner!
“Nyzhnyk” looks like a typo.
It must be the bear. I am going to carry one to my next tournament. I hope I don’t get to many stares as I am 40 years old

Let’s hope (and he probably is, in fact) he’s more socially developed than the dolt that posted that drivel.
Pedobear approves.

I recall reading that JUDIT POLGAR used to place a stuffed animal beside her as a little girl while she played against the strongest male players around town. She did win many games and so mystified were these men, I read, that they also began to bring stuffed animals to the table when they played against her.

Does no one else see a problem with this? An eleven year old brain isn’t even close to performing at its future capacity, and we have this and eventually even younger children playing at a “grandmaster” level? In my opinion there are very few real “grandmasters” in the game. They play each other regularly in places like Linares, Monaco, and now Baku rounds out the pack. Something is up with the rating system, and this exemplifies it. A teddy bear? Really?
There’sprobably a small computer inside the teddy bear running Rybka.
Illya is indeed a boy’s name.
Pronounciation in Russian is…
eel – yah
and
neesh – neek

SSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
Better yet, the bear has a vibrating device controlled wirelessly in it that tells the boy when to move a piece.
Similar to how Danilov activates the mole on Topa’s nose to vibrate to make a move.
It is an old Russian trick.
Judging from his pudgy face and hands (can’t really see much of his body), I would say he needs to spend more time playing some games more strenous than chess.
do you know what type of bear it is??

This kid is still not a GM. When he becomes a GM he will probably play some games with “real grandmasters”. And I don’t think he will be that easy to beat.
Re: “Nyzhnyk” looks like a typo.
Nyzhnyk is Ukrainian name, not so much easy to pronounce even for Russians. Still, transliteration is correct according to the official UKRAINIAN-ENGLISH TRANSLITERATION TABLE(http://rada.kiev.ua/translit.htm).
Thank you GM Mikhail Golubev!
Your explanation was informative and enlightening!
