took more than 10 seconds! The obvious consideration is to give the opposing King room to avoid checkmate. But moving the Queen to give the King space just seems to give the King too many flight squares and without the support of her own King, there’s no quick mate possible. The solution,1. Kd1 as others have already pointed out, has delightful elements. It’s counterintuitive to let your opponent free his Queening square. Second, it uses zugzwang to solve the problem of how the Queen can move to give check while giving up watch over the flight squares on the h-file. Black’s only move, 1…Kf1 changes his flight squares for the worse, allowing White to mate with 2. Qe1 – Craigaroo
I needed 5 more seconds!

Nakamura can solve this in 1/100 seconds.
I just did. Less than 10 seconds but I’m 43 years old. You are far better than me.

Took me a couple of minutes, and my FIDE rating is over 2000… 🙁
Amazing, making this puzzle at a very young age
So it transpires you were a problem child.

Many commentators are not even beating about the bush; they are bushing about the beat.
