Doubtless Carlsen is the best tournament player at present. H’ever, whatever his rating explosion as he grinds his opponents down,he should not ask for the World Championships to be held at his convenience ( format etc etc ). Almost all chess lovers would only like to see a one on one match up for the WC. Did not Kramnik disparagingly say of Anand when he won the WC by tournament play ‘ I have only lent him the championships temporarily’. He of course meant that Anand should beat him in match play – a feat Kramnik thought to be near impossible!.
