Women’s World Chess Championship 2015
The FIDE Women’s World Chess Championship will be held from March 16th to April 7th in Krasnaya Polyana, Sochi, Russia. The organization of the Championship was agreed during the meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
A total of 64 players qualified from the Women’s World Championships 2012-2013, FIDE rating lists, World Junior Championships, continental zones and FIDE President’s nominees will compete in the knockout tournament with six rounds. Initial list of qualifiers as per regulations is below.
The first five (5) rounds of matches will consist of two (2) games per round, with the winners progressing to the next round. The 6th round (final round) will be played over four (4) games and the winner will be declared Women’s World Champion.
The total prize fund is 450,000 USD with 60,000 USD dedicated for the Women’s World Champion.
Grand Hotel Polyana
The winner of the FIDE Women’s Grand Prix series 2013-2014 will play the Women’s World Champion in the second half of 2015 in a ten game match for the Women’s World Championship title. Should the overall winner of the Women’s Grand Prix also be the Women’s World Champion at the end of the Grand Prix series in 2014, then the challenger rights will go to the second placed overall in the Grand Prix.
