1. … Qe3 2. Rg1 Rc1 0-1
Q-e3
Qf2………?
actually Qd2 is better…
1….Qf2!! Threatening Qxe1#
A>2.Qb4.Rd2!.3.Rg1.Qxg1+!.4.Kxg1.Rc1+!.5.Bd1.R1xd1+.6.Qe1.R1xe1#!
B>2.Rg1.Rd2!.3.h3.h5!.4.Qa4!.Rc1!.and wins! 5.Bd1.R1xd1+.6.Qxd1.Rxd1!.7.Rxd1.B ihas Q + B for 2R!
Eg. Qe2!.8.R1-d7!.Bxe4!.9.Rxe4. (Else Qxg2#).Qxe4 and B has Q for R!
Qe3
Qd2??
Qd2??
1)… B×e4
1…. Qe3
2.Rg1/Rf1/Ra1/Rb1 Rf1 wins
(2.Rxe3 Rf1+ 3.Re1 Rxe1#)
what is the correct move?
Anonymous,
1. …Qe3 is the move you are looking for, I think, though it is likely Qd2 will win, too. Let’s deal with the other two queen moves that attack the rook at e1:
1. ……Qd2
2. Rg1! Rc1
I have stared at the position after white’s move at 2 for a while, and Rc1 is the only real continuation I see for black here that offers much. Continuing:
3. h3 Rdc8
4. Bf7 Qf2
5. Rc1 Rc1
6. Kh2 Bf7
And Ms. Polgar is up a bishop for a pawn and has a powerful attack. Now, most of the above is without much study on my part, so perhaps I am missing better defenses for white, but I don’t immediately see them.
As for 1. …Qf2…..
1. ……Qf2
2. Rg1!
And now black can’t play Rc1. Harry suggested Rd2, but…..
2. ……Rd2
3. Qa6 Rcd8 (what else better?)
4. Qb7
And I just don’t see what black has gained here? White has plenty of counterplay if needed.
But with Qe3….
1. ……Qe3!
2. Rg1 Rc1
And the rook at g1 is double attacked- the point behind Qe3 is that she eyes both g1 and c1. The only defense now is to give up the bishop….
3. Bd1 Qa3
4. ba3 Rcd1 with an easy win.
Or, at move 2 in this line to prevent the double attack at g1 white plays Rf1…
1. ……Qe3
2. Rf1 Rc1
3. Qa6
I will discuss 3.Bc4 and 3.Bd1 below. Continuing:
3. ……Qg5 (Qc5 ok too, I think)
4. Rg1 Qc5
And the double threats on white’s rooks are deadly. And white can’t really do much better with the bishop moves at move in this line:
1. ……Qe3
2. Rf1 Rc1
3. Bc4 Qa3
4. ba3 Rc4 with an easy win.
Or:
3. Bd1 Qa3
4. ba3 Rcd1 with an easy win.
Why not
1. RC1
1. ….Rc1 loses because after white takes the rook, the d1 square is doubly protected by the white rook and the bishop.
Stupid! I meant 2….. Rc1
World championship match looks like ANAND VS. PYTHON
not stupid at all
… 1. RC1 all over!
not stupid at all:
1 Rc1 -> all over!
