1…Rh8 2.Kg4 Bf2…..wins!
1. … Rh8+
2. Kg4 Nf5 1-0
(There is no defense to Rh4+ checkmate)
1. … ♜h8+
2. ♔g4 ♞f5, threatening
3. … ♜h4#
After
3. ♘d5+ ♚e5
4. ♘xf4 ♝xf4
5. ♖h1 ♜xh1
6. … ♜h4# is inescapable.
Stopping pawns is hardly the main issue here, but:
1. Ra8+ Kg4
2. Nf5! b8=Q (or any)
3. Rh4#
Don’t stop the pawns!!!
1. …. Rh8+
2. Kg4. Bf2 threatening Rh4#
If 3. Kxf4.Rh4#
If 3. Rh1 Rxh1 followed by Rh4#
Harry
Rh8+ Kg4 (forced)
Nf5 (threatening Rh4#)
Mating your opponent cancels all his threats.
1…Rh8+ 2. Kg4 Nf5 and when White runs out of spite checks, …Rh4#.
“How can Black stop the passed pawns?” By mating White first:
1. …..Rh8
2. Kg4 Bf2
And white cannot prevent Rh4#- he can only delay it with moves like Nd5+ and Rh1. Even taking the pawn at f4 doesn’t save white since Rh4 is still mate (why I prefer Bf2 rather than the equally effective Nf5 at move 2)
