Three members of Webster University’s Final Four champion team just tied for first place at the 2013 St. Louis Open Championship, which was held at the St. Louis Chess Club over the past three days. This was the strongest St. Louis Open ever, with eight grandmasters and five international masters in the 41-player field.

Webster dominated the event by taking eight of the top nine spots in the final standings:
– Grandmasters Wesley So, Georg Meier, and Manuel Leon Hoyos scored 4 points / 5
– Grandmasters Fidel Corrales Jimenez, Anatoly Bykhovsky, Denes Boros, Andre Diamant, and international master Vitaly Neimer each scored 3.5 points / 5.

Webster U freshman Vanita Young competed in the reserve section, where she tied for 1st place with 4 points / 5.

The chess team’s recent President’s Cup championship at the “final four” of collegiate chess garnered news locally and nationally.
