1.Rh8+ Bxh8 1.Rh8+ Bxh8
2.Qxh8+ Ke7 2.Qxh8+ Kf7
3.Qf6+ Ke8 3.Qf6+ Kg8
4.Ng7# 4.Qg7#
I would want to keep the black king from getting to d8 and c7. So, give up the rook is my first thought:
1. Rh8 Bh8 (Ke7/f7 2.Qf6)
2. Qh8 Ke7/f7
3. Qf6 Ke8
4. Ng7#
White must strike hard, fast and continuously to avoid mate. Start with 1. Nxf6+ and go from there.
1 Rh8+ Bxh8 (Kf7 or Ke7, Qxf6#;
2 Qxh8+ Kf7 (Ke7, Qf6+, Ke8, Ng7#)
3 Qf6+ Ke8 (Kg8, Qg7#)
4 Ng7#
1. Rh8+ Bxh8
2. Qxh8+ Ke7 or Kf7
3. Qf6+ Ke8
4. Ng7#
1.Rh8+ Bxh8
(1…Ke7 2.Qxf6#)
(1…Kf7 2.Qxf6#)
2.Qxh8+ Kf7
(2…Ke7 3.Qf6+)
3.Qf6+ Ke8
(3…Kg8 4.Qg7#)
4.Ng7#
Hi! It seems to me that 1.Rh8+ wins in all variations…the point being that Black must NOT escape via e8-c7!
1…Ke7 2.Qh7+
1…Bxh8 2.Qxh8+ Ke7 3.f6+ Kf7 4.Qg7+ Ke8 5.Qe7 mate.
1…Bxh8 2.Qxh8+ Kf7 3.Qg7+ Ke8 4.Qg8+! Ke7 5.f6 mate.
