Pancevo International Women Chess Tournaments

Pancevo Chess Union and IO Miladin Mitrovic organized two concurrent International Women Chess Tournaments from 9th to 18th September in Pancevo, Serbia.

The average rating of the Grandmaster tournament corresponded to FIDE 10th category, while the IM tournament was of 1st FIDE category. Legendary Grandmaster Svetozar Gligoric attended the opening ceremony.

Both events were six-player double round robins. WGM Jovana Vojinovic won the Grandmaster tournament with 6.5 points from ten games. It turned that the victory was convincing as WGM Iva Videnova lost in the final round and slipped a full point behind.

Romanian WIM Ioana-Smaranda Padurariu demolished the competition in the IM tournament and took the first place with impressive 9 points, leaving the nearest followers full three points behind.

Earlier, Pancevo hosted To Gligoric With Love tournament, celebrating Grandmaster’s 85th birthday, the first Bobby Fischer Memorial and the 2010 Serbian Women’s Championship.
