Ladies and Gentlemen,

The 2010 version of the AFOCC has come and gone and Larry Larkins is once again the reigning champion! Congratulatons Larry! If you participated in this weekend’s past events, glad to have seen you again and look forward to seeing you once again next year. For those of you that missed the event, shame on you!

The 2011 version of the AFOCC I hope will be much like the 2007 version. Lots of donated prizes (we had over $5,500.00 in donated prizes that year, which does not include the Booz-Allen-Hamilton sponsorship we had received), hopefully AFOCC shirts provided by MCCS once again, good food/drinks (not enough to feed you, but enough to tide you over till you could get something to eat), and good atmosphere. At this time I expect the tournament will be held Henderson Hall once again.

I plan on utilizing the old 2007 AFOCC website http://www.timbeeck.com/afocc.html, the U.S. Military Chess .org website http://www.usmilitarychess.org/, and this forum to relay information about the event. If you are looking for an update about how the event is progressing over the next few months, go to the old 2007 AFOCC website, as I’ll be mainly posting updates there, as we modify that website for the 2011 AFOCC. If you weren’t able to participate in the 2007 AFOCC, then go to the website, and check out the five pages of photos from that event to get a feel of what the tournament was like. Also still listed on that site is all the donors to the 2007 AFOCC event, many of which I hope will contribute again!

Geez, was about to sign off and forgot to mention that I’ve taken over the Chair to the USCF from Doug Taffinder. There is one main agenda item I’m going to try to get pushed through while I’m at the reigns but not going to mention it at the moment, oh what the hell, Larry Larkins isn’t allowed to win the AFOCC anymore by decree… LOL, no that’s not it, but rather keep things under wraps till I get a better handle on how things work first. If anyone is interested on being on the 2010-2011 Military Board to the USCF, please e-mail me at JohnnyUSMC@aol.com. Hopefully at least one of each branch is interested.

Now, not to forget to mention; thanks goes out to LtCol Doug Taffinder, USAF and MSgt Steve Rollins, USMC retired for putting on this years event and to Col Mike Hoffpauir, USA retired for being this year’s TD once again (and our Booz-Allen-Hamilton liaison)!

S/F
