Ukrainian Grandmaster Vassily Ivanchuk announced his retirement from professional chess. He made such decision after being defeated by Filipino chess player Wesley So in World Cup 2009.

“It was not just a match, it was a crucial game. I would take it easy if my opponent would be much stronger than me or well prepared. But I lost and it is a destiny sign. I start new life with new aims. Chess… I will be just a chess fan now. I will follow the games of my ex-colleagues,” Ivanchuk stated in the interview with Sovetsky Sport daily.
