FIDE Presidential Board meeting 1st quarter 2009
The PB approved the new structure for FIDE Commissions and Committees the details of which will be announced on the FIDE website.
The PB agreed on a commission to be set up to consider the zonal structure of FIDE. The PB approved changes in the Laws of Chess including that the default time would be zero unless otherwise specified in the regulations of the tournament. The PB finalized Title and Rating regulations and dealt with other matters left from the Dresden meetings. It agreed to postpone the World Championship Match between World Champion GM Anand and Challenger GM Topalov until the latest April 20th, 2010 and asked for bids for the match. The PB corrected the mistake done by the organizer of the World Senior Championship and announced GM Kaufmann and GM Suba as co-winners. The PB decided upon a commemoration schedule of the former world champions starting with W. Steinitz in 2009.
The PB acknowledged and accepted the bid from UEP for the World Chess Championship Cycle 2010-2011. In 2011, there will be a Candidate Matches/Tournament consisting of GM Kamsky, the loser of the Anand-Topalov match, two players from the Grand Prix series and one player from the World Cup, two highest rated players not already qualified and a player nominated by the organizer. The winner will play the World Champion in 2011.

Haha. You have about 50% chance of being right. What is certain, though, is that it is the only way Topalov could be the hot contender for another year.
I don’t think so… During the match in 2010 Anand will be one year older than now… And if anyone is a pseudo champion, it is Topalov…

They had better include Kramnik in there. He gave away his title for the Mexico Tournament and then had to unfairly fight to retain a title that he gave away. But when Topalov loses a match (even with an free game) he gets to play a match with Anand right away. This needs to stop now – a complete travesty. Kramnik is the only guy to beat Kasparov in a match and is considered by many to still be the rightful world champion. I hope at this point Kramnik breaks away from FIDE and forms a new, fairer organization.

LOL. Have you seen Topalov’s lifetime record against Anand? At Anand’s age, the delay helps Topalov. Maybe if he delays it about 10 years, Anand will be too old to beat him.

The famed Bulgarian sportsmanship rears its head again. I’ve never seen such a sense of entitlement. Isn’t it enough that Topalov was gifted a free shot into a candidates final?

What was unfair about that match? And how can you “retain” what you’ve already “given” away? Makes no sense.
Kramnik should not be deprived of his divine right to play Anand for the WC title.
The matches should be scheduled every 6 months until Kramnik wins or one of the players goes into retirement or is deceased.
Simple, predictable and fair pattern to decide the WC title for years to come.
I think Topa wanted more time to prepare. So FIDE gave it. Though it helps both, I think it favors Topa more

Stop spreading bull. Anand was the one who asked for the postponement and FIDE agreed.
I think it is a good new for Anand, my idol, at least as a gentleman.
With 1 year to prepare, he will be able to win Topalov. Probably, Anand will play Kramnik style – the most uncomfortable for Topalov.
Topalov has his top now, but for a year, (like a year ago, when he lost to Carlsen with Alekhin defence) he will come down.
Who will come down we will see! The true is that Anand wanted to postpone match! And dont forget about dirty campaign vs Topalov in 2007 – middle of 2008. Dont keep thinking that the story can repeat twice. In 2010 I predict that Topalov will be at 2830 at least!
Will be great if Topalov win this time :). That’s good that he will play against Anand. Thay both are strong and the match will be interesting. But i hate delays. Would like to see who will win this year :). Are’nt you unpatient too? Why thay made things so dificult for Topalov allways?! The federations don’t like to give the championship to the small countries like Bulgaria – the same like in figure scating…Anyway i wish luck to Topalov and Anand and let’s see who will win :)!
