Who wrote this crap? Are they saying that Topalov is Russian or Soviet? And they paid to print this garbage?
Oh geez….relax. The guy just madea mistake. It’s not the end of the world…..sun’ll come up ..tomorrow….bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow….(Yeah know the rest)

Congrats to Mr Anand for a well earned victory. 12 game matches are too short I think…but it was still enjoyable.
Topalov was never a undisputed World Champ, dear, in the Classical Format.

It is wrong in any case as Anand was already undisputed champion after Mexico last year. You can’t start redefining things as match champion to make out Kramnik was still champion. That is disrespectful of Anand.

Correct. The person who wrote the article may have made a mistake, but it doesn’t make the statement “Anand is the new undisputed World Champion!” any less of an insult.
Why some people are determined not to accept Anand as the World Champion is beyond me…
Cant you see the picture? Winner of World Chess Championship 2008 is undisputed champion. Anand is the 15th World Chess Champion after Kramnik the 14th.
Maybe Magnus the 16th after some years to come.

Dear Frustrated,
Topalov was a round robin winner. For reasons not totally clear to me, the chess world doesn’t accept the round robin winners as real world champions. They should, but they don’t. Kramnik was a gentleman to accept Anand as a world champ after the round robin, but the chess world was waiting for THIS. And now they are looking at Anand as the “real world champion”. That’s the way it works.
If Topalov would have won against Kramnik, yes, he would be looked at as world champion. The way it turned out, only his personal fans do.
Excellent style by both sides on and off the board. Commentaries here helped a lot so thanks for those.
More of the same please (and less of the politics and ‘thehype’ which curiously is the verification word on offer!)
Kramnik a gentleman? He didnt give a rematch to Kasparov and did everything he could to hold the title as long as possible doing the minimum effort possible.
He had to say that Anand was the World champion in order not to look ridiculous but before the match he started again to talk about how the only thing he recognizes is a win in a match.
Anand is absolutely deserving world champion who for many years had the misfortune to play in the Kasparov time.
Like this, 3 out of 4 players who had an elo of more than 2800 are now undisputed world champions.
Anand has earned this recognition. He is the best player of the last 15 years not named Kasparov.

Anand was not the undisputed World Champion following the double round robin event in 2007, because he hadn’t won the championship in the classical format; hence, there was some dispute. Of course, any such dispute should now be laid to rest, and the term “undisputed” is, at last, applicable.
Finally, FIDE restores this match format championship but not for women yet. Hope the world will also have undisputed women world champion.
Undisputed? Muahahaha.

Topalov is Volapot.
USCF is the only governing body of chess. What it says is law. It is undisputed. So don’t dispute.
A great result for Anand and for chess. Vishy deserved the win in every way and I’m very happy for him. It will not be easy for the younger generation to push him aside.
Why would the younger generaion want to push him aside? Second place is also good. Brings a lot of money and female chess fans.

It is the undisputed grandmaster Ian Rogers from teh continent of Australia. He is one of the best chess trainers in Sydney and a prolific journalist with thousands of hits.
Unrelated note, but since USCF is mentioned.
Given ICC, and similar sites, USCF needs to re-think it’s role. Their subscription fees, and tournament fees are too high, and unless you want to play for GM/IM norms, it’s not clear why you need to play OTB at all. ICC is more convenient, frequent, and you get to play great players.

Rogers was clearing referring to the undisputed (aka classical) World Champion title — the line from Steinitz to Kasparov/Kramnik/Anand. There have been other “world champions” but this line is still fairly uncontroversial, having changed hands principally through a victory in match play (excepting Alekhine’s death, and Fischer’s absconding).
Anand was the undisputed champion after Mexico City 2007 because there was no rival claimant, but there is a qualitative difference between that event and this match.
Adding World “match” Champion just makes this distinction crystal clear; far from offending a Topalov fan, he is avoiding the claim that Topalov wasn’t a “world champion,” by recognizing that Topalov’s accomplishments (and Anand’s in Mexico) are different from London 2000 and Bonn 2008.
We also have World Blitz Champions (although those are still more disputable). If bald-headedness were a relevant distinction in chess, well then we’d really be in trouble!
I should add that The Hindu, India’s national newspaper, draws a similar distinction:
“Significantly, Anand scored over a player who holds the rare distinction of dethroning Garry Kasparov eight years ago in a title match. Kasparov, who defeated Anand in 1995, is arguably the strongest player ever to have played the game. This historic triumph saw Anand become the first player from outside the erstwhile Soviet Union nations — after Bobby Fischer in 1972 — to win a world title match. Fischer and Anand are the only two players who have scored over Soviets/Russians to claim the title in match-play in the post World War II era.”
