Obviously it is more complicated than I thought . I saw parts of the analysises above.
But I can pat myself at the back for intuitively coming up with a right first move: 1..Ne3

Maybe this is good enough to win, but isn’t 2…Qc6 even clearer?

This must be a typo — 3.Rd7, maybe? In any event, I don’t think White can play things quite this cozy. For better or for worse, he has to bust things open with 3.f5!? I doubt if it’s good enough, but better to burn out than to fade away.

Cute! I didn’t see this until you pointed it out.
How about 1…R8e3? if 2. Qd5 then 2…Rg3+ 3. hxg3 Rxf1+ 4.Kxf1 Ne3+ 5. Ke2 6. Nxd5….and Black is lost?!
As always, I enjoyed the geometry of it all….maybe it will give others some tactical ideas…
Also looked at 1…R8e2, but then 2. Qxe2! Rxe2 3. Bxe2 also seems to leave White on top, or is he?

Both your conclusions look right to me, Kalamakanta. As you point out, that first line is just flashy enough to lose after 6.Rxd5.

Hi! usually I look at the diagram and see which ideas occur to me right away, without a board and pieces. Petrosian liked to do this, but Bronstein did not.
I guess I react to the position in the same way I would do it if I was playing a blitz game (win some, lose some). Anyhow, it is still fun. It gives me some joy, a good distraction from life’s “problems” for a few minutes.
When I first saw the position, my first reaction was to play Ne3, but I was then drawn to the idea of R8e2?!, because the White rook on f2 is pinned, and the White bishop on f1 is also pinned.
I am always attracted by the most “spectacular” variations, even though many times they are not the most correct. I find beauty in the “wild” interaction of the pieces, in long combinations with different themes interweaving…
