Hello Susan. Do you know if Irina qualified for a GM norm?
Speaking of GM norms, my calculations show that Hou Yifan just missed making a GM norm (as in she needed much less than half a point more for a GM norm, but of course it is either half a point or nothing). Is this correct?
Congrats to Carlsen for one of the best results of a 17y old ever!
I bet he will go 2800+ as a junior.
Magnus Carlsen:
2004 won Corus C
2006 won Corus B
2008 won Corus A
Fabiano Caruana:
2008 won Corus C

Levon Aronian wins the tournament on 1.5 tiebreak points over Magnus Carlsen. Anand does the same on third place to Teimour Radjabov.
How are these tiebreak points calculated? Could someone answer?
Thank you,
Melody-Montreal
You look on how many points your opponents has got. If you win against someone who ends up with 7 points, you get 7 tiebreak points. If you draw someone who gets 7 points, you get 3,5 tiebreak points. 0 points if you lose.

Official Corus Web site says they tied. Chessbase tends to use it own tiebreaks which are the same for every tournament and not in line with the tournament. this causes confusion.
here is the quote from the official corus web site.
Levon Aronian and Magnus Carlsen drew their games today, and are the joint winners of the 70th Corus Chess Tournament Grandmaster Group A. Vishy Anand could have joined them with a win over Vladimir Kramnik, but after a hard fought game, had to content himself with a draw.
So Susan has it correct.
Chessbase has it wrong.
Everyone should write to chessbase and tell them to get their story correct.
Is this GM Nigel Short’s best performance in a while? Is he ready to make a comeback back up to the upper echelons of super GMs?
Thank you Gegga,
Melody
How come noone is congratulating Aronian. He finished ahead of Anand Top and Kramnik as well. He smashed people. Remember the finish against Gelfand. Brilliant. A fine result for a 25 year old. If he was 16, noone would be mentioning Carlsen. amazing
