The MonRoi International Women’s Chess Grand-Prix Finale is around the corner. The Finale will take place in the heart of Montreal, July 21-28 2007 at the Hilton Doubletree. Elegantly-furnished guestrooms are amongst the largest in the city and are equipped with the latest technology including high-speed wireless internet access, clock radio with mp3 connectivity, a Sony Dream Machine CD Player, large work desk with ergonomic chair, cable television with pay-per-view movies etc.

The Grand-Prix was made possible due to outstanding support of the European Chess Union, the Quebec Chess Federation, and Chess’n Math. Many thanks to Susan Polgar and the Associations of the Chess Professionals for endorsing the program. We hope that the tournament organizers benefit from added promotion, and that women in chess receive well deserved recognition. The finalist hotel and flights are curtsey of the organizers. Transport from the airport is provided. The prize fund is $15,000, and the winner receives $4,500. 8-player round robin will determine the champion. In case of equal points, a round of play-offs will decide the first, second and third place. GALAZZO jewellers are awarding to the winner of the Women’s Grand-Prix a truly unique watch from Hot Diamonds embellished with 16 sparkling diamonds.

Montreal features the Just For Laughts Festival, July 8-29. The world’s largest and most prestigious comedy event includes gala performances, theatre and club shows. The festival celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. Early birds will attend the Press Conference, scheduled for Friday, July 20th at 5pm at the Hilton Doubletree in collaboration with the Just For Laughs Festival. On the 21st the finalists will have a tourist guide showing them one of a kind world metropolis. The finalists will receive special massages and hand treatments at the spa on Saturday, July 21st. For the third year in a row, Spa Eastman is listed in 100 Best Spas in the World authored by Bernard Burt and Pamela Joy Price. On Saturday, July 28th at 10pm, our Grand-Prix Finalists are invited to attend the closing ceremony of the Montreal International Fireworks Competition at La Ronde! Courtesy of Loto- Quebec. During the most prestigious event of its kind, pyrotechnicians from 8 countries display their daring talent. L’International des Feux Loto-Quebec was founded in 1985 at La Ronde, Quebec’s largest amusement park, which was created for Expo ’67.

The 8th Montreal International Chess Championship with a top level 10-player round robin (V. Ivanchuk UKR, G. Kamsky USA, N. Short ENG, P. Elyanov UKR, S. Tiviakov NED, K. Miton POL, P. Harikrishna IND, E. Sutovsky ISR, M. Bluvshtein CAN, P. Charbonneau CAN), the Quebec Open Chess Championship (I. Nataf FRA, A. Huzman ISR, V. Iordachescu NDA, T. Likavsky SVK, E. Rozentalis LTU, Andrey Rychagov RUS, Chanda Sandipan IND, F. Perdomo CUB, H. Thong VIE among others) and the Chess’N Math tournaments will be held at the same venue. Want more chess? Well, the blitz tournament is scheduled on the 29th.
