Lithuanian wins 2011 European individual women chess title

TBILISI, May 18 (Xinhua) — Three-time European runner-up Viktorija Cmilyte from Lithuania on Wednesday finally secured the continental championship title with an easy draw with 37th-seeded Svetlana Matveeva of Russia at the 2011 European Individual Women Chess Championship.
The ninth-seeded Lithuanian has chalked up nine points from eight wins, two draws and one defeat from the 11 rounds of the Tbilisi championship which was played out as a Swiss system tournament.
Finishing half a point behind for the silver medal was Bulgaria’s 2002 European champion Antoaneta Stefanova who scored 8.5 points from seven wins, three draws and one defeat.
