Aidan Appel, 6, a first grader at Riverside Elementary School in the D.C. Everest School District, finished second in the Wisconsin State Chess Championships in the first-grade division. Aidan next will compete in the U.S. National Championships in Nashville, Tenn., in April. He is the son of Dr. Naomi Arenson and Warren Appel of Weston.
