Susan, my questions to you are how do you handle fellow candidates like Sam Sloan and Joe Lux recklessly and maliciously attacking you and others? How do you stay so calm when people like Jerry Hanken publicly shouted and insulted you in front of many people?
Thanks!
Jorge
Gata Kamsky rules! I hope he can make a comeback against Gelfand.
Jorge, it is not easy dealing with such people. They don’t realize that their actions not only hurt themselves but the entire chess community.
I know Sam Sloan well and he has no business serving on the board. I do not know Joe Lux until he came and played at the Polgar Chess Center once.
However, I must say that I am very disappointed by Joe. An anonymous person made some outrageous allegations against him. I was trying to protect him from this sort of malicious attacks as well as protecting the USCF.
Instead of thanking me for trying to save his reputation, he decided to have his attorney sent me an email and letter threatening to bring me to court. Neatless to say, I showed his attorney’s letter to my team of lawyers and we are ready to defend this matter in any court he wishes.
He could have sent me an email asking for the facts. But he chose not to. He made false charges against me before based on his political connection. He chose to associate himself with people who obviously used him as a front man for their political agenda. It is unfortunate that he fell for that. Other than that, I know nothing about him except that he makes a living being a TD and teaches chess.
As to Mr. Hanken, the attacks came after he asked my husband for a job last year. Shortly after he was turned down, he shouted at my husband in the lobby of the hotel in Chicago in front of about 50-100 people. Everyone shook their heads in disbelief.
What do you do with situations or people like this? Not much. I will let the public make their own judgement. Nothing I say will help anything. Responding to such behavior will only make things worse and further harm the USCF.
That is part of my job as the Ambassador of chess. I have to lead by example. Actions speak louder than words.
Best wishes,
Susan Polgar
Susan,
I voted for you and your team. I hope that all of you will get in. We need serious people who will work for the best interest of chess and this federation instead of a bunch of loudmouth killing chess for many years.
Thank you for all that you do. As a player and a chess father, I very much appreciate your efforts.
Sincerely,
Miguel
Greetings Susan and to all forum participants.
And guests.
First I wish Susan and her team will win in this USCF election. I can’t wait to see the result of the elections. This blog has made me involved in a far away issue from where I live. I kind of want the good to win and I think that’s what the issue is all about. I want to see the four riding up high and controlling the USCF, putting USA on the chess map. I am sure these four up there will make a big change.
What is going on with Gata? Susan, have a talk with him. Tell him something, cheer him up. He may feel lonely over there in Elista. An American abroad. I want to see Gata going out for blood, no matter the outcome of the games. Gata you are not lonely. We are with you. Send him this message Susan.
Dear Susan,
Keep up the good work. I hope you and other like minded people are elected. Small suggestion as to what to do:
1. Find someway of making the US championship more important to chess players – pros, amateurs and fans. Suggest holding several tiers – the top tier as round robin for the top 10 players.
2. Keep up the great work with scholastic chess – especially with the college angle – suggest promoting leagues organized along lines of the athletic leagues to take advantage of natural school rivalries.
3. Have the blogging done on the official site to resemble your site in frequency, breadth and scope.
4. Finally, many good players often drift away from the game because they can’t find good competition to play – this may be more difficult, but would it be possible to have a sponsored tour of GMs or IMs to play at regional events throughout the country? It may be too much to hope for Shabalov or Onishuck to go barnstorming the country but perhaps others might find it interesting. I realize that many titled players don’t want to play in these events because it loses them rating points but for those outside of the top 10-20 it might be a consideration.
Thank you again, and good luck!
I also had a good impression about Mr. Lux until he started to post on the USCF forums. His posts clearly showed that he’s clueless about what’s going on in the chess world. In addition, he made some incredible charges against other candidates which proven to be completely false. We don’t need another irresponsible Sam Sloan on the board and Mr. Lux is very close to being another Sam Sloan.
I support Joe Lux, Sam Sloan, Mike Goodall and Stephen Jones. I don’t support Susan and her team. Susan wants to change the USCF. This federation doesn’t need any changes. It’s fine the way it is. What does a woman know anyway? Please vote for the team which will keep the USCF away from Susan’s plans.
Susan, you should start to moderate or censor some of these crazy people.
What’s wrong with Gata? Why did he spend so much time in the last game?
I am sending my ballot out today for Susan Polgar, Jim Berry, Mikhail Kornman and Steven Jones.
I didn’t vote for Paul because the marriage made it a 2 for 1 deal. Paul, despite this, I am very inspired by you. I will vote for you in any future election. Keep up the good work to both Susan and Paul.
I voted for Paul Truong, Mikhail Korenman, Jim Berry and Susan Polgar. I like Randy but his association with Beatriz Marinello scares me a little bit.
It’s nice to see Korchnoi at the National Open. He speaks very highly about you.
It’s a sad day in womens sports when the athletic director at the University of Tennessee will not continue womens basketball’s greatest rivalry between the Lady Huskies of UConn and the 2007 NCAA Lady Vols of Tennessee. This rivalry sold out every game between the 2 schools between 1995 and 2007 and many NCAA titles were decided on this game. Hopefully for the sake of the fans from Tennessee, UConn, and womens basketball in general, this problem can be resolved. By the the way I’m a UConn fan! Go Huskies!
I’m glad Susan doesn’t censor the comments. It’s instructive for the rest of us when her opponents show what small, bitter men they are.

There is a postcard going around. Apparently as posted on Forums, Sam Sloan sent out a mailing supporting the slate of Sam with Joe Lux, Stephen Jones and Mike Goodall. These are the exact same 4 as Mr Vote for Sloan said he wants to see elected in the post above us. These 4 are linked but trying to hide the fact.
Mike Goodall says on Forums he wants to be just like Sam. What a guy. He is almost there already. He says our soldiers in Iraq are the terrorists. How many sponsors will accept that kind of statement from our EB. Not a one is my guess.
I am not taking any chances with my 4 precious votes. I will vote for Susan and Paul and Randy and Mikhail for sure. I keep watching the mail box but it has not arrived just yet. Maybe Monday.
Jim Berry is a nice guy but he opposed the Scholastic people in Oklahoma for many years. So I want to support scholastics 100% and will cast my votes as given. I do not want to take any chances on getting this election wrong.
Go Susan Go I hope all 4 win.
Who cares about Sloan, Lux or Goodall? Who are they? I voted for Korenman, Berry, Truong and Polgar.
Actually, Goichberg cares. He wants Lux to win so it would be one more vote for Continental Chess. What kind of a person is Bill for sending out such classless post card and email to the USCF members? He’ll fight to control the USCF until he dies and he’ll destroy anyone in his way. That’s why the Dubeck groups hates him with a passion.
As difficult as it must be for Susan sometimes, I think she made the right decision to allow the posts here by dissenters. It only exposes their bitterness and cheap attacks, and makes them look ridiculous.
Is it possible that the Dubeck group funded the mailing of the Sam Sloan postcard? Also, what is the association between Randy Bauer and Marinello? I don’t know what her story is but I know that she is not held in high regard in certain scholastic circles.
Susan, Steve Owens made a very serious charge against you. He said that his sources said that you want to close the forum if you’re elected. He said that you want to silence the members. Can you confirm this?
Billy Bob,
I have no idea what Mr. Owens is talking about. I have not discussed this with anyone, not Randy, not even Misha or Paul.
Mr. Goichberg and his supporters are trying to tell the USCF members that I have a slate. That’s funny because I have spoken to Misha in ages and once to Randy about a month or two ago for a few minutes about some personal matters.
This is similar to someone telling Mr. Lux that I was planning to take over the NY Scholastic when I have no interest to do anything remotely like that.
This is one of the biggest problems with the USCF. We have too many people with private agendas and they are poisoning people’s minds with malicious lies.
If people want to know, why not ask me. Why rely of bogus rumors? Some people have too much time on their hands and they’re coming up with too many fantasies.
Best wishes,
Susan Polgar
Does anyone have any idea on which candidates will likely win?
When are the results of the election due out?
OK, if you are elected will you try to close the forum? Or will you undertake not to close the forum and to allow members to express their views in public through the forum?

Obviously, you didn’t bother to read what she wrote above.
uscf forums news –
I did read that, and it did not answer the question. Susan said she would answer if asked, so I asked, will you close the forums or not?
The forum—-It needs to be opened up!! I tried to view the forum only last week but was unable to access it. I am a member of the federation, I should be able to easily read the forum and put my two-cents in. I am wondering as the election is getting closer that the forum is being used to put people off. Susan’s blog, here, is evidence that she will not “silence the Membership”, her blog is opened for any wacko that wishes to post, why would want to close a ‘membership’ forum. She is not going to have time for any of that–the budget will be the board’s main target.
Why would a professional such as Susan be interested in closing a forum? She has opened up this blog for every wacko that wants to post; a members-only forum would be no threat to the board. Members will re-apply their membership based on the opportunities to be a part of a great organization, not whether it has a forum. The board, will have its hands full balancing the budget and developing chess for the USA.
