To all southern CA chess players: some very sad news: TD John Hillery has died. John was a highly-regarded TD and a leading force behind the success of Southern CA chess. If you can, volunteer to help so that the Southern CA Chess Federation can carry on in John’s absence (although he could never be replaced). I do not know the cause of John’s death.

Sorry to hear about it.
I remember when I was a teenager who played in some of the tournaments that he hosted. Because of his booming voice and suave confidence, I was intimidated by him as a teenager. Nonetheless, he was a great TD and a huge advocate for US Chess and a great man. RIP John Hillery
