How do you get low-income at risk students ready for the future? One Westminster school seems to have the answer – incorporate tennis and chess into daily academic lessons. The Ricardo Flores Magón Academy is a one-of-a-kind state-funded K-8 Charter school, that opened its doors August of 2007.
With students who are mostly of Mexican descent, the goal of the academy is to encourage students to move beyond economic limitations and prepare for high school, college and beyond. In addition to a strong academic curriculum, the Ricardo Flores Magón Academy includes tennis and chess as part of its daily lessons.
