Sofia to host Anand-Topalov game
Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, will host the Viswanathan Anand-Veselin Topalov World Chess Championship match in April, 2010.
The match was allotted to Sofia by the world chess federation (FIDE). The Bulgarian city had no competition.
The match will consist of 12 games with classical time control. In case of a tie, additional four rapid games will be played.
FIDE has informed Chessdom.com in an official letter that the dates of the championship will be announced after consulting the schedule of Topalov and Anand. The proposed dates of the organizers 5-24th April 2010 in Sofia may change.
Singapore and Turkey were the only other bids.
Sofia, backed by the Bulgarian government, assured to give three million euros for prize, organisational costs and FIDE fees (20 per cent of prize fund).
