Rf3 maybe
Qd5 followed by e3 sets up the Queen to attack the king
which of course can be foiled by whte’s f2………..hmmmmmmm
1. … Rf3 looks strong.
If White ignores it, e.g., by 2. Qd4, Rxh3+ mates after either 3. gxh3, Qf3+; 4. Kh2, Qg2 mate or 3. Kg1, Rxg2+; 4. Kxg2, Qf3+; 5. Kg1, Rh1 mate.
If White plays 2. g3, Qf5 threatens both the Rook on c8 and h3. White also has to protect the Rook on f1 in some variations. If, e.g., 3. Qa6, Qxh3+; 4. Kg1, Rgxg3+; 5. fxg3, Qxg3+; 6. Kh1, Qh3+; 7. Kg1, Qg4+; 8. Kh1 or Kh2, Rh3 mate. If instead 3. Rc2 (to guard the second rank), Qxh3+; 4. Kg1, Rgxg3+; 5. fxg3, Rxf1 mate.
So . . . White should probably play 2. Kh2, after which Black plays … Qf4+. Now 3. g3 (if 3. Kh1 Black plays … Rxh3+ and mates as above), Rgxg3; 4. fxg3 (after other moves the discovered check eventually will be fatal), Qxg3+; 5. Kh1, Qxh3+; 6. Kg1, Rxf1 mate.
OK, I know I’m missing something simple, but what???? Someone enlighten me. 🙂
2 g3 Qf5
is good and winning and is what I saw initially.
But you can go for 2…Rfg3 and if
fxg3 then …Qxf1+ ;Kh2 Qc2+; Kh1 Rxg3 and mate cannot be prevented on g2.
Can you give us a hint?
How about
1. Rf3
1. Qd4 Rh3+
2. Kg1 (if gh Qf3+) Rg2+
3. Kg2 Qf3+
4. Kg1 Qh1#
Hope it’s correct
Peter
…if
2. g3 Rgg3
3. fg Rf1+
4. Kh2 Qf3
5. anything Qh1#
or..
4. Qg1 Rg1 +-
but I’m not sure
Peter
1. … Rf3
2. g3 Rfg3
3. fg Qf1+
4. Qg1 Qh3+
5. Qh2 Qf1+
6. Qg1 Rh5++
if 2. Kh2 then Rh3+ followed by Qh5++
or Qf5+ w/ mate to follow.
