Currently the North American Chess Association is working alongside two well known GM’s to bring a match to North America!
We are in talks with English GM Michael Adams (FIDE 2732) and American-Armenian GM Varuzhan Akobian (FIDE 2567) to bring a 4-round match to Chicago.
The tentative schedule has the event just before the 2007 Memorial Day holiday in the U.S.
The tentative schedule of events is as follows:
May 18 – GM Akobian Simul
May 19 – Round 1
May 20 – Round 2
May 21 – Rest Day
May 22 – Round 3
May 23 – Round 4
May 24 – GM Adams Simul
Stay tuned over the course of the coming weeks for further details on this super match!
If you are an organization or individual wishing to provide sponsorship for the event please contact sevan.muradian@nachess.org for further details.
I would prefer to see a match between a top US male player vs. a top US female player. Nothing against Adams but he’s not exciting to me.
I agree with Jacques. Adams is boring to watch. I wanna see Kamsky vs. S. Polgar in a match. I’d pay to see that.
At least some group is trying to bring matches to the US. Having an international flavor is good for the US as well. Maybe it will promote more invitations for US players to events in Europe or to get more groups here in the US to organize matches or other international events.
Hi Susan :
It is none of my business but you might want to disclose such events only after everything is finalized. If the match doesn’t come through, you might have egg on your face.
Susan is not the organizer. She just let us know the good scoop in advance.
Nice to see…..but a bit of a well…dont want to say anything bad about Akobian but…a miss-match??
Cmon..he’s 200 elo points lower…in a 4 game match I predict 2.5 -1.5..
to Adams…
I predict that Adams will win by a .5 margin.
While a mis-match perhaps, it can make things interesting.
Adams will have to play harder to not lose ELO points. Akobian will have to play harder to prove he’s worth this match.
