Here is another example of what can happen even to super GM when the King is NOT safe.

What a smart remark from “Smallville” – do other players win if their opponents do not make mistakes?!
They blunder because they are afraid of him. That simple.
History repeats itself, same thing happened while Kasparov was active. His opponents couldn’t cope with huge pressure.
King Magnus! 🙂
On ICC: Smallville(GM) kibitzes: “Carlsen wins only cause people blunder in equal positions”
The problem with Naka’s statements is that he never credits Magnus’s own ability to find strong and accurate moves. Naka makes it sound as if Magnus doesn’t make any strong moves himself.
Naka basically says that Magnus relies on pure luck and only wins because his opponents blunder (he doesn’t even use the term ‘inaccurate’ moves), and needless to say, that’s just a ridiculous statement.
It’s also sad that a player like Nakamura makes such statements. In fact, Nakamura has been attacking and insulting Magnus behind his back numerous times PUBLICLY on ICC (one can wonder why: Is it jealousy? Nakamura gets VERY defensive when confronted with the fact that Magnus belongs to the world’s elite, and he does not).
Furthermore, does he really think that Magnus won’t learn about this? Perhaps he should be a bit more careful about what he says in public.
Funny, getting his opponent to blunder is skill that Nakamura (flagging etc.) has, and is a skill in itself! Magnus is just a better player than Mr. Nakamura.
Nakamura hopes that by making stupid statements like this organizers will invite him to play against Carlsen. Fat chance. He should defect to Canada and be the superstar there.
well, regarding Smallville, what would Magnus do?
Probably he’d prefer to just “stay away from such people” ..
Nakamura is learning from the school of Laugherty.
I don’t find it really fair to be puttin Naka down like that. Ok the comment he said might have been a little rude but ICC is a place where anything goes and I don’t find it fair to be knocking on Naka just cuz he’s a high rated player.. If anyone else said that comment it would have went by with nothing said.
Naka should be man enough to apologize to Carlsen and all the chess fans.
“I don’t find it really fair to be puttin Naka down like that. Not because he’s a high rated player. It’s because he says stupid and obnoxious things. Ever wonder why he doesn’t get invitations to real tournaments?
Really cool that you put his comment in your blog. It was so stupid of Naka to say something like that. Carlsen is acting much more adult then Naka, and he is only 17 🙂 Thank you Polgar 😀
Even so, comparing anyone to Mr. Jack A. Laugherty is about as low a blow as can be made.
Naka’s also a kid, born in 1987. But yeah, his burning jealousy obvious to everyone not himself.
“I don’t find it really fair to be puttin Naka down like that.”
Who’s putting down whom? Who started this in the first place? When you make such comments — and when you’re a high-rated player like Nakamura — don’t expect people to just ignore it. Nakamura should understand that whatever he says in public — especially when he tries to put down other players like Carlsen — will have its consequences.
“Ok the comment he said might have been a little rude but ICC is a place where anything goes”
So that gives him the right to be rude too, along with all the other immature kibitzers there? Nakamura is one of the few titled players there who actually talks negatively about other (well-known) players in public. He even used the term ‘retarded’ when referring to another high-profile player. The ironic thing is that he (and his supporters) gets defensive (or offended) whenever someone says something negatively about him on ICC. The same thing doesn’t seem to apply when Nakamura is the one who dishes out the insults.
“and I don’t find it fair to be knocking on Naka just cuz he’s a high rated player. If anyone else said that comment it would have went by with nothing said.”
Well, most GMs have the decency not to talk like that about another (high-profile) player in public. And do you really believe that we should just ignore Nakamura’s statements simply because he’s a high-profile player? Does he think that it gives him the right to say whatever he wants, without any consequences? If he thinks so, he’s seriously wrong.
I don’t find it really fair to be puttin Naka down like that.
What goes around, comes around.
Naka has no manners, and deserve no respect.
The whole point of the game is to render the opponent’s King unsafe.
I guess you mean that not castling invites disaster. How often do players not castle at the top level? Let’s go with the facts.
Nakamura insulted Susan too and she doesn’t even play in Bilbao. He just wants to mouth off.
1 out of 5 blitz games against Rybka engine, Magnus manages to win.
GM Nakamura should know better that
becouse he manages only to draw 1 game out 5 blitz games against same engine.I don’t rememeber when he defeated comp last time.
Bad luck?
I feel pitty for Nakamura.
He lack good manners. Probably he had a difficult childhood. He is not to blame for being a rude boy.
Now, his manners has been identified to a larger part of the chess comunity. Probably he will improve his behavior.
it’s not the first time that nakamura makes such stupid statements
whom who can not even makes it first in a 2400 tournament !!!
so, i put my name on the long list of nakanymous
columbo
This has to be the statement of the year:
Smallville(GM) kibitzes: “Carlsen wins only cause people blunder in equal positions”
Smallville is GM Hikaru Nakamura
NOOO, are you kidding, anonymous at 2:28??
Excuse me, but who is this Nakamura guy?
I read that he is a high rated player, yet I never heard of him?
In which tournament did he play in recently?

Umm, are you from the US?
He is the second highest rated player in the US behind Kamsky, former US Champ.
No, I’m not from USA.
I’m sorry but your information doesn’t tell me much. It’s like: Who is the highest rated Argentinian player? Shoot me, but I have no idea.

Google. Learn it. Live it.
(In other words, in a web blog, don’t ask questions you can answer yourself in 4 seconds on a computer with internet)
I did, believe me.
Yet my question remains. What tournament did he played in recently? I mean real tournament not the ones that nobody covers and talks about.

What do you mean by “Real” tournment? How many top tournments are thre? He is a top 40 player in the world but not a top 20, is that good enough to qualify him as a high rated player?
Lately there has been one top tournament after another(for the last 3 months not a week has passed without a top tournament). I didn’t see Nakamura in any of them.
And how many people outside of top 20 get invited to these tournments?
Well, I guess he is not good enough then.
No wonder i never heard of him before.

According to Nakamura’s blog he will be in this
tournament where Carlsen will also be playing. Should be interesting.
Getting to 2000
What a stupid arrogant statement by Nakamura.
We all see where the “small” in “smallville” comes from.
Nakamura, just what the chess world doesn’t need, another boor. Thankfully, at least we don’t have to worry about this one making it to the chess elite.
Nakamura is absolutely on spot here!
Similary, Fischer only had a streak because his opponents blundered in equal positions – 20 times in a row!!!
Nakamura has more right to say something about collaegues than most of us nobodies about him.
