Anand seems to be motivated in this event. He is now at +2 after 4 rounds! Carlsen defeated Ivanchuk with the Black pieces to take clear second. He could have defeated Aronian as well but missed the win. Here are the results of round 4:

A somewhat silly question perhaps, how do you arrive at these numbers, +1, -2 and so on?
Wins – Losses
Well if you play one game or many games and all the games are draw then you are at zero.
If along the way, you win a game then you are +1. and if you lose a game you are -1.
If 2 people have a score that is 1/2 point different then one player will be +1 over the other player.
If I were to tell you that Anand has 3 points you might say to me. well how many games were played to reach 3 points. Right now in Linares he has 3 points out of 4 games so that is +2.
If someone had 3 points out of 10 games we can figure it out. ave score for 10 games is 5. he has 3 so he is -2. He is 2 games below ave 5 games.
obviously if you have 3 points out of 3 games then you won all 3 games and are thus +3. The +3 says you won 3 games more than you lost. draws not counting.
lets say I won 3 and lost 2 and had 5 draws. well the draws do not count. with won 3 and lost 2 that becomes +1. I won 1 game more than I lost.
Right now
Anand +2 score 3
Magnus +1 score 2 1/2
Anand won 2 games and drew 2 games.
Magnus won 2 games, lost 1, drew 1.
If someone had 3 points out of 10 games we can figure it out. ave score for 10 games is 5. he has 3 so he is -2. He is 2 games below ave 5 games.

I think 3 out of 10 is -4 not -2 🙂
