The pawn on g6 controls f7, and its execution is imminent. White must act!
1. Rh8+ K:h8
2. Qh2+ Nh5
3. Q:h5+ Kg8
4. Qh7+ Kf8
5. Qh8#
Black can also toss the Bc8 to the woodpile with 2…Bh3, but it makes no difference.
Rh8+ Kxh8
Qh2->h7-h8
1. Rh8+ Kh8
2. Qh2+ Bh3
3. Qh3+ Nh5
4. Qh5+ Kg7 or g8
5. Qh7+ Kf8
6. Qh8#
All seems forced to me:
1. Rh8+ Kxh8
2. Qh2+ Kg8 (Nh5 delays things a bit)
3. Qh7+ Kf8
4. Qh8#
So, what am I doing wrong?
Easy cheesy. Rh8 check. Figure out the rest. Hint: Qh8 mates
pawn d5
Rh8 & Qh2
1. Rh8+! Kxh8
2. Qh2+ Nh5 (Kg8 Qh7+ Kf8 Qh8#)
3. Qxh5+ Kg8/Kg7
4. Qh7+ Kf8
5. Qh8#
1. Rh8+! Kxh8
2. Qh2+. Nh5
3. Qxh5+ Kg8/7
4. Qh7+. Kf8
5. Qh8#
Harry
RH8
1. Rh8+ Kxh8(forced)
2. Qh2+
and Black has no way to stop the eventual mate on h8:
2….Nh5 or Bh3 only delay with
3. Qxh5 (or h3)+ Kg8 (or g7)
4. Qh7+ Kf8
5. Qh8 mate
1. Rh8+ Kxh8
2. Qh2+ Kg8 (Nh5 will not make any difference)
3. Qh7+ Kf8
4. Qh8#
The key is: h-file, g-pawn controls f7 square and looking to queen that has 2nd rank and h-file free and g-pawn controls h7square too, and the bishop on e7 dont allow the king scapes to e7 if queen checks h8 and the king is on f8. Well, sac the rook, followed by queen check.
