Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
susan,
Nice redesign. Looks quite professional.
I found one thing quite confusing though. The drop down menu “chess center foundation etc” drops the menu only below chess center option. You expect the menu to drop below your chosen option. e.g if I am on foundation, the menu should display below that. I think there should be a way to highlight where you are. But even more confusing is that when I try to select an option from the menu after I have pointed to press for instance, it defaults to the options under chess center. This could be really aggravating to many people.
BTW: I just found that the above only is a problem in the firefox browser. It seems to work correctly in Microsoft Explorer.
You might want to decide if you want the site to work with other browsers.
I am not sure how much of your audience uses Firefox. Some of us use it exclusively.
I like the layout. It looks like a newspaper.
regards.
Thank you vvchess! I will let my web designer know!
Best wishes,
Susan Polgar
The new layout is very cool. I especially like that their are no advertisements and the videos are easy to find and download. Although their are many menus Im finding it easy to navigate. Looking forward to Saturday, I have a couple questions for you.
I did not know your name was Zsuzsanna. there is a song I always loved as a kid. you can even get the song with the music on the web.

Oh! Susanna
~~ Words and Music by Stephen Foster
I come from Alabama with my banjo on my knee;
I’m goin’ to Lou’siana my true love for to see.
It rained all night the day I left,
the weather it was dry;
The sun so hot I froze to death,
Susanna don’t you cry.
Oh! Susanna, don’t you cry for me;
I come from Alabama,
with my banjo on my knee.
I had a dream the other night,
When everything was still;
I thought I saw Susanna dear,
A-coming down the hill.
The buckwheat cake was in her mouth,
The tear was in her eye,
Said I, I’m coming from the south,
Susanna don’t you cry.
Oh! Susanna, don’t you cry for me;
I come from Alabama,
with my banjo on my knee.
I soon will be in New Orleans,
And then I’ll look all ’round,
And when I find Susanna,
I’ll fall upon the ground.
But if I do not find her,
This darkey’ll surely die,
And when I’m dead and buried,
Susanna don’t you cry.
Oh! Susanna, don’t you cry for me;
I come from Alabama,
with my banjo on my knee.
Nice job on the redesign. I like the newspaper format. And the video proves once again that I’m terrible at guessing what a person’s voice will sound like. 🙂
Just wanted to say the new site looks great Susan. Compliments to the designer!
Looks awesome! Give your web designer a big hug.
A few things:
There are some dead links. You should run it through a link checker, such as http://validator.w3.org/checklink.
I’d rather links didn’t open in a new window, even if they are off-site. Most of your links are off-site, so that means new windows are opened left and right.
Although I get bitten by the misplaced-menu-in-Firefox issue too, I expect the site will work well in a wide range of browsers, as it has the “graceful degredation” thing going for it: when I switched off Javascript in the browser, the site still works fine. Kudos for that.
A great improvement over the old site! Old Rook Van Winkle really appreciates all the great chess information Susan makes available each and everyday. So kudos to Susan Polgar – America’s greatest “chess ambassador” – and to all of her team making these great web blogs and sites possible.
Excellent web site! I have one suggestion: include a few of Susan’s best games, with annotations.
Very nice!
I prefer going straight to this page:
http://www.susanpolgar.com/indexone.html
versus having to click through this page:
http://www.susanpolgar.com
Of course, I can do that by using Favorites, etc., but I would recommend you consider having the indexone.html on the base page. Some impatient people might not click past the present opening .com page.
