Round 5 matchups:
1 Viswanathan Anand – Magnus Carlsen
2 Alexei Shirov – Vladimir Kramnik
Your prediction?
Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Round 6 matchups right not round 5?
My guess:
Magnus will push hard, overplay his hand, but will escape with a draw.
Shirov will finally break through.
Looks to me that Carlsen let one get away, at least if you believe the computer analysis.
Shirov may have let Kramnik off the hook, too, again, if you believe the computer analysis, but the advantage there was never more than about 0.6 pawns.
Jcheyne,
Yes, he appears to have pushed too hard, but now, just before the time control, even without the computer analysis, I would say Carlsen’s position is lost. That backward d-pawn looks like toast.
I am going to have to dig out my chess board to try to understand the seemingly subtle differences between the computer’s evaluation of Anand’s 38th move of Qb6 rather than the computer’s suggested Qc6.
