Turkish Chess Champioships started in Kemer!

Turkish Chess Championships among women and men has started on 29th of January, 2012 in Kemer, Antalya and will continue till 5th of February, in a ten-round Swiss system. The top seeds are GM Dragan Solak, GM Baris Esen, GM Emre Can etc. 309 participants (52 more compare to previous year) including 19 title players together with 4 GMs, 6 IM and 6 FM, 3 CM take part in Turkish Championship among men.

69 players participate in Women Turkish Championship including WIM Betul Yildiz, WGM Kubra Ozturk (who recently made the last WGM norm). It’s a first Turkish championship for Dragan Solak who recently completed the transfer from Serbian Chess Federation to Turkish Chess Federation and is going to represent the Turkish national team in the next Olympiad.

This year an impressive prize fund for both championships was introduced by sponsors. Turkish Chess Federation together with general sponsor Is Bank provided a prize fund of about 12500 Euro in Turkish Championship among men. At the same time Women’s Championship has its own sponsorship from Arzum Company (Arzum Small Home Appliances Company is main sponsor of Turkish Women Championships for 4 years since 2009). Arzum Company provided about 45,000 TL (about 20000 euro) in total. The prize fund includes (products (4300 euro) + money prizes (7500 euro)). The strongest women players (more than 20) received free accommodation in 5-star Limra Hotel from sponsor as well.
