It had to happen and the third round of the Thailand Open 2013 – 13th Bangkok Chess Club Open – was always a major candidate as the second of two games played on the same day!
Defending champion Nigel Short must have felt his age but take nothing away from Saptarshi Roy who played and took his chances well to register the upset of the day.
Other top boards, Jan Gustafsson, Koneru Humpy, Oliver Barbosa, Sune Berg Hansen, Mark Paragua, Rogelio Antonio and Zhao Zong-Yuan however made no mistake and together with Wan Yunguo, Wang Chen, Attila Czebe, Hamed Nouri and Ralf Akesson, remain perfect on 3/3.
Live games daily are at www.bangkokchess.com and parings and results will be posted after each round at chess-results.com.
The Thailand Open 2013 is being held at the luxury five star Dusit Thani Resort in Pattaya from 14-21 April 2013 and organised by the Bangkok Chess Club with support from the Thailand Chess Association.
