He won’t let you get the mate that easily. After 1 Rd6+ Kh5 2 Qe8+, Black should block the check with g6, as in anandh’s variations (although a. got the file wrong for the queen – it’s e, not d).
But anandh: what if after 3 g4+, Kh4? 4 Qe3, maybe? It’s not a check, but there’s still not a lot that Black can do as long as White controls the e file and prevents … Qe4+.
Ooh, very civil, Wolverine. But Qe2 is not mate thanks to …g4. After which Qe5 is met with Qf5, protected by the pawn. Exchanging queens is not in White’s best interest here…
(How sad to see what used to be a model of decorum and tranquility become, like any other sport, a battleground for rival ideologies to slug it out with glee… but hey, what do I know, I’m just a joke.)
this is if the king decides to be difficult not take my pawn like a good little king and make me things hard for me. ill still kick his ass but it wont be as easy to do it.
In other words, “Can White win?”, since a draw is easily obtained.
Rook to D6 followed by Queen to E6 ???

yeah, that works.
1 Rd6+ Kh5
2 Qe8+ g6
3 g4+ Kh4
4 Qe3
White now threatens Qg3 mate. The only way to keep White from playing it immediately is to check on e4:
4 … Qe4+
5 Qxe4 Rf7
(Black’s other moves are useless, but the Rook move allows more delaying since the Queen can no longer move directly to g3)
5 f3
This keeps the King from escaping (and leading a merry, if doomed, chase) via Kxg4, and makes the new mate threat Qe1#.
5 … Re7
Now the Queen has to get rid of the pesky Rook before mating the King.
6 Qxe7 Bxd6
Taking White’s Rook means Qe1 is no longer mate becuase the Bishop can interpose.
7 Qe1 Bg3
8 Qxg3#
Of course in a real game Black would probably resign somewhere in there.

Hi,
Has anyone considered after
1.Rd6+ Kh5
2.Qe8+ g6
3.Rxf6?
Thanks,
Anton
just my two pence… (because i think there was no correct answer thus far …)
1.Rd6+ Kh5
2.Qe6! … and the white mating threats are not to perry
greetings
PS: it’s not always about check, check, check and so on … 🙂
Hi,
OIC vohaul, so w/ your
2. Qe6
it looks like in order to prolong
things, black would have to drop
his queen before dying, right?
