Here are 12 of the strongest married chess couples in the world:
GM Shirov – IM Cmilyte
GM Al-Modiahki – GM Zhu Chen
GM Shaobin Wu – GM Jun Xie
GM Bartosz Socko – IM Monika Socko
GM Kosashvili – IM Sofia Polgar
GM Fressinet – IM Skripchenko
GM Gulko – WGM Anna Akhsharumova Gulko
GM Atalik – WGM Polovnikova
GM Bellon – GM Pia Cramling
GM Sergei Movsesian – WGM Petra Krupkova-Movsesianova
GM Lalic – IM Susan Lalic
GM Yermolinsky – WGM Baginskaite
Are there any other couples who are stronger?
Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
What a list!
I do not think Susan stayed married to Keith Arkell when she married Bogdan Lalic.
Ben Finegold
Not stronger than these but quite well known are Robert Bellin (IM) and Jana Bellin (WGM). Jana was, of course, previously married to Bill Hartston and Tony Miles (not at the same time).
Nice touch, the relief of King Tutankhamun and his wife Ankhsenaten. The throne, and this throne-back, is one of the finest and most human things in the Cairo exhibition.
g
how about
1. Ramesh (GM) – Aarthie Ramaswamy (WGM)
2. Jha (IM) – Vijayalakshmi (IM)
Couple of other Indian examples are Baruas and Thipsays
Also the Bosbooms ..
Does Lautier – Skripchenko still count?
If added Elo rating is the criterion, then Sriram Jha and Vijayalakshmi Subbaraman would definitely make it to the list (slightly above Yermolinsky-Baginskaite, I think). Curiously, according to the last round of published ratings, Sriram and Viji are tied at 2425. Talk about parity.
Ben Finegold and any woman!
Not the strongest either, the Donaldsons.
The Indian couples of course
GM Dibyendu Barua – WGM Saheli Dhar Barua
GM Pravin Thipsay – WGM Bhagyasree Thipsay
i wonder, whether there is a couple, where the woman has the better part of the ELO rating system…
dear god , do women ALWAYS go for their heroes, teachers or coaches????
the given list is VERY revealing, isn’t it?
a smirkin’ Vohaul
Olga and Gennadij Sagalchik
would be 2440 + 2126 = 4566.
Is that high enough?
I played in a tournament with them in Curacao. They had a daughter also who was rated like 1500. Is there a category for highest rated family? 🙂

regurgitating old posts?:)
how about ivanchuk and galiamova??
Makropoulos IM- Makropoulou WGM
one with higher rated woman:
Dembo (~2460)IM- Logothetis FM
one ex couple:
Miladinovic GM- Botsari IM
Also as correctly pointed out, very strong is the Indian couple: Sriram Jha and Vijayalakshmi Subbaraman. She recently made her third GM norm by the way..
The strongest chess couple ever were Vasily Ivanchuk and Alisa Galliamova
Hey, major omission in the list:
GM Laurent Fressinet and IM Almira Skripchenko recently got married!
Also the Bosbooms ..
They aren’t in any way related.
Vadim Malakhtako and Anna Zozulia
GM Zoltan Gyimesi + WGM Dr Nora Medvegy
Rafael Vaganian-Irina Vaganian
Not sure about stronger but GM Rohde’s wife is an IM
Surely the Bosbooms used to be married, no? The Bellins are long since uncoupled, also.
Gulko/Akhsharumova would have been pretty strong back in the day, as indeed would Granda Zuniga/Polgar if I recall my scurrilous rumours correctly (the ELO winners, I suspect).
For stronger-women chess couples, Judit P and more or anyone would do nicely, although I don’t know the lady’s romantic history. Pia C is certainbly stronger than Bellon these days and has been for a while.

Vohaul,
You don’t have very good logic:
“i wonder, whether there is a couple, where the woman has the better part of the ELO rating system…”
Nearly all strong women chess players who are married, have a husband with lower or no elo. Judit Polgar, for example.
Limiting it to couples where both players are titled (i.e. we wouldn’t count J. Polgar plus some non-serious player) I think WGM Elena Akhmilovskaya-Donaldson was rated higher than IM John Donaldson. I can’t think of any other examples.
The referred Bosbooms are:
Manuel Bosboom and Tea Bosboom-Lanchava and are like someone mentioned not married or related to each other.
WHat about the Gulkos?
Oleg Korneev – Tatiana Kononenko
